In-depth analysis for website proposal.
This site prides on its simplicity. It features a plain white background and has a prominant logo which is simply; PEROU in black block capitals with london, new york, los angeles and tokyo listed underneath. This effectively shows how Perou is an established photographer in a minimalistic way. There is no biography on the website so Perou is relying on his photos and illustrious reputation to explain what he is about.
It features a simple navigation system on the left hand of the page which sorts his photography into mini portfolios. The starting page goes straight onto his new work which I think is a good way to show that he has an abundent amount of clients as it is updated frequently. At the bottom of the page it features some additonal links to social networking sites and his contact information. I feel that the contact information needs to be more prominant as it can easily missed.
In each mini portfolio it displays the photos as thumbnails on the page. When you scroll down the navigational system follows, so you always have access to it. I think this is a good design as the pages feature a considerable amount of photographs and it would take a long time to go back to the top again. However due to the shear quantity and diversity of the photos I feel that the pages seem quite cluttered. When you click on a thumbnail it allows you to view the photo in full screen. You can then use the arrows on your keyboard to scroll through the rest of the photos in full screen if you wanted. Viewing the photos like this really makes you appreciate their visual impact as there are no other distractions on the screen.
Overall i feel this is a simple and effective site. Perou uses the visual impact of his logo to coerce people into remembering his name.
This website is very simple and classic in design. It features a black blackground with a logo which is plainly Lara Jade in a serif font. Being a site that showcases fashion photography this layout compliments the often brightly coloured photographs.
It features a simple navigational system down the left hand side of the page that lists portfollio, info, blog and contact information. Under portfolio there are 3 pages for her work; book I, book II and archive. The use of roman numerals adds to the classic feel. The photographs are displayed in a scroll and to go through the photographs you have to scroll sidewards. I think this is a successful method of showcasing these photographs as they are all similar in theme and it is quite 'magazine like' which is what the photographs were marketed for. However their is no option of viewing the photographs in full screen which I think some may have benefited from.
Overall I think this website is successfull as it mirrors the classic feel of high fashion. The inclusion of a link to Lara Jade's blog provides an outlet away from the main website to show more of her personality and life as a photographer.
This website has a distinct personal feel to it. To start with the Splash page features a weathered hand in negative and has links to various work types and general information.
Once you are on the main page you can then access the options you didn't choose on a navigational bar at the top. These options are displayed in a handwritten style font and highlights each option as a different colour. The logo of the page is a handwritten symbol which i feel is too unsufficient. The overall colour scheme of the website is black and various tones of grey. However a couple of the pages feature a coloured background and i think they feel misplaced due to this.
On the photography page there are a number of sub catargories in a navigational system on the left hand side of the page. The photographs are grouped in colours. They are displayed as thumbnails on the page and when clicked on, another page is linked with a larger version and information. You cannot get a full screen version of the photos which I feel should have be an option.
Overall I think this website is successfful as you can sense Corbijn's personality behind it. However I do feel that it is very text heavy and that unless you are an avid fan or need to find out alot of information about him this is not needed and will not be read. I also think that his images are not displayed to their full potential.
Further research
I like the simplicity of this website and the grey and black colour scheme. The images are also presented in a visually effective way. However, I feel that Sheridan's work would benefit from a sub navigation system as all photographs are together as one lot. I feel the work would carry more meaning if they were grouped into sets and had a small explanation.
I like the way the photographs are displayed on this website, having the thumbnail bar at the bottom which disappears when you move off it is a feature I particularly like. However I feel that there are too many photographs on this site and that it starts to get monotonous after a while. I feel it would be a stronger body of work with just a select few images.

I think this site could be improved in many different ways and has some superficial errors. Firstly on the home page you cannot read the writing where it overlaps the photos. I also think this photographer would benefit from creating a trademark logo which appears on all pages. Secondly I think that that there are better ways of displaying photos than the thumbnail method she is using and that the use of the white border around the photos looks quite amateurish. However I do like her inclusion of a slideshow of her portfolio. I feel this would be better placed on the homepage.
This website demonstrates a successful way in displaying a wide and varying body of work. The overview of his work directly lets you see his photographic style and the areas of photography he works in. The method of displaying the photographs is both effective and modern. However I feel that his navigation system is not prominent enough on the page and needs to be in a larger font. I also think it would look better if a serif font was used as the mix of sans-serif and serif fonts on the home page does not work.
This website is successful due to its simplicity. The photographs are displayed in a visually effective way, again it features a thumbnail bar which is something that always seems to work well. One thing I would change is to change the logo from the right side of the page to the left as your eye automatically goes to the left first.
There are aspects of my own website that I like and dislike. The main thing that I am going to carry on to the new design is how the photos are displayed in the fullscreen slideshow. However I am not going to feature a slideshow but to just have this on the webpage. I am also going to use a navigation system that goes along the top of the page.
